A Product of My Environment

My room in the guesthouse in Penang was very clean and recently refurbished with hardwood floors, fresh paint, and new sound-proof windows. It had no A/C, but fortunately there was a fan across the room, which seemed to work best with the windows open. When I opened the windows, the sounds of the traffic, food stalls, and tables full of late night diners right outside my window poured into my room. I laid down on the bed to enjoy the cool breeze from the fan and the clamorous sound of the city's night life.

I quickly drifted off to sleep and slept through the night. The crickets keep me awake, but when I can hear the city, I sleep like a rock.
