Another Brick in the Wall

Before visiting the Great Wall, I was taken to the royal tombs, which, while in a pretty setting, were not very exciting. And we practically ran through, so my information on the place is limited.

But the whole point of the trip was seeing the Great Wall anyway. So, here it is. I had an hour and a half to explore. After all of the useless running around, I was a little tired and no longer motivated to climb, but I figured I would at least climb to the first lookout point, as shown, since I was there and had nothing better to do. Yes, it is a long way up and, yes, I did indeed climb it.
Now this is what I had been looking forward to all day...
Once you reach the first lookout tower, you can buy a "hero card". But I think that heroes don't need cards; heroes keep climbing! So I soldiered on...
... up to the second lookout point...

... and then the third and the fourth.
Whoa, that's a lot of steps!
And, of course, there are cheesy shirts for sale at the third tower.
And lots of steps to the fourth.
It is amazing how well worn these steps are.

Is that the fifth tower? Yes, it is.
Here is a look down at the fifth... and still climbing. Dizzy yet?
Finally, I hit the end of the wall, climbing to the top of tower number 6. (Or at least the end of this section of the wall.) I hadn't felt like climbing, but ended up covering the whole thing.
But the view and the personal satisfaction were worth it. Not to mention, what else was I going to do with my hour and a half. Actually, I used about 70 minutes climbing, so I had to hurry back down. Running down that many steps takes more time that you think. (I had to go back down near the road on the left of the picture.) Can you say shin splints?
I'm happy I did it. Why go see the wall if you aren't going to climb it?

That's awesome.

You should have brought a cafeteria tray and rode it back down.
