Observations
Today's jaunt was to the Beijing Ancient Observatory, built in the 15th century and serving as the center of Chinese astronomy for centuries.
Next to the tower were some lovely courtyards surrounded by traditional buildings containing astronomy exhibits. I wish I had some amazing learnings to share with you, but I just don't. (You can't be sharp every day.) Enjoy the pictures.

And there is, of course, a collection of ornate astronomical instruments.
If you want to know what they do, call Dave Goldberg (if you know who he is). I just take the pictures.
The best part was the collection of a dozen old, decorative, and apparently useful instruments lining the border of the roof. I just thought they looked cool, especially juxtaposed with the modern skyscrapers in the background.
