Krakowin' Wise

Yesterday, I was both exhausted and soaked, so I only wandered a little bit through the old city. Today, I did not manage to avoid the rain, but it was a little lighter than yesterday, so I set out again.

The main entrance to the old city is through the Florian Gate, built in 1300.
From here, you can see Krakow's most famous landmark, St. Mary's Church, in the distance...
... with its cool door. (If only I was sure that my head on the door was a dream.)
While waiting to meet Sarah and Sinead (who arrived from Gdansk yesterday), I people-watched in the main square. I will never, ever again complain about the size of my workspace.
To get in out of the rain and just relax for a few hours, we wandered down to a coffee shop and sat in a warm corner, chatting away the morning.
(Sinead)Then I checked out some of the local churches while they worked out their change in accommodation.

Strange as angels...
Church of SS Peter and Paul (with its statues of the 12 apostles).
This is St. Andrew the Apostle Church. It was originally built in the 11th century, but the baroque interior is from the 18th century.
(Note the pulpit shaped like a sailing ship, in the lower left corner of the photo.)
Then it was on to St. Bernard of Siena.
This place is so baroque, I don't think anyone can fix it!
What they do to the horses here to amuse tourists is so sad. Look how embarassed he is. I bet he would blush if he could.
Back to St. Mary's at the main square, with its two different towers, to meet the girls...
... for lunch at the most over-the-top Victorian-style restaurant we have ever seen. But the food is good. There's Sarah in our super pink restaurant.
We had to laugh at the second menu item (Old polish salad with cancer necks. Yum!)
After Sarah and I toured the local salt mines, we met up with Sinead and finished the evening back on the main square.

Look at you with The Cure reference.

The one saint looks like he's pulling the ivy off the building.
