What Really Goes On at the Hostel
The hostel had three adorable stray kittens. Apparently only two belonged to the mama cat nearby. No one knows where the little one came from, but they all got a lot of love from us. Here, the tiny one was curled up inside a hat while the larger kitten tried to get in on the action, which mama cat didn't appreciate. (She didn't want her kids hanging out with the riffraff.)
When kittens are tiny, they fit in your hand and can sleep upside down.
But, kittens only sustain our attention for so long. When people start getting restless, they start trying on the military uniforms that were hanging on the walls as decoration. (This is Hannes and Kes. They wanted to re-enact the experience that they, and every other guy that I met in Ukraine, were subjected to. They were all, at one point or another, stopped by Ukrainian police, asked for their passports, told there was a "big, big problem", and had 50 UAH (about $10) extorted from them. I think it was empowering to finally be the ones wearing the uniforms.)
